In Kochi, the government issued a directive to pay a compensation of Rs 25,000 to Sojish of Nettoor as per the state human rights commission's order. The additional chief secretary of the home department mandated that the compensation be deducted from the salary of the former SI of Panangad in three equal payments. Justice JB Kosi, the commission's chairman, had instructed the compensation. Sojish, a member of a scheduled caste, had been physically assaulted by former Panangad SI Vipin AB. The complaint stated that Sojish was unlawfully taken into custody by a police team led by the former SI while he was hospitalized without the authorities' knowledge or consent. Subsequently, a case was filed against the SI and the commission ordered a compensation to be paid. The SI faced an investigation, resulting in departmental action with a reprimand, but no compensation was initially granted. The government noted that the SI had been given an opportunity to respond before the commission issued its final ruling, but he failed to do so. Consequently, the government directed the payment of Rs 25,000 to the complainant, Sojish.
